Real Madrid stars Kylian Mbappe and Antonio Rudiger have avoided immediate suspensions from UEFA following disciplinary action over their controversial post-match celebrations during the club’s dramatic Champions League last-16 triumph against city rivals Atletico Madrid.
UEFA confirmed on Friday that both players have received suspended one-game bans for “violating the basic rules of decent conduct” after Real Madrid’s penalty shootout victory on March 12 at the Wanda Metropolitano.
The bans will only be enforced if either player commits a similar offense within a one-year probationary period.
The disciplinary measures come in response to video footage that circulated widely on social media, showing Mbappe grabbing his crotch during the on-field celebrations.
Rudiger, who also engaged in provocative gestures, received a €40,000 fine, while Mbappe was fined €30,000.
Midfielder Dani Ceballos, another member of the Real Madrid squad involved in the emotional celebrations, was handed a €20,000 fine but did not receive a suspended ban.

UEFA stated that while the conduct of Mbappe and Rudiger breached its standards of player behavior, the suspended nature of the bans reflected a balanced disciplinary approach, allowing both players to remain eligible for upcoming matches.
Importantly for Real Madrid, the ruling means both stars will be available for the crucial Champions League quarter-final first leg away to Arsenal on Tuesday — a fixture that is already shaping up to be one of the most anticipated ties of the season.
Meanwhile, UEFA confirmed that no disciplinary action would be taken against Vinicius Junior, who had also been under investigation in the aftermath of the fiery Madrid derby but was ultimately cleared of any wrongdoing.
The incident has reignited debate about the line between emotional celebration and unsportsmanlike conduct in high-stakes football matches.
However, with their top players cleared to play, Real Madrid can now turn their full focus to the next chapter of their European campaign
