The Military High Command has confirmed the death of the son of Bello Turji, a notorious terrorist leader, in a recent clearance operation on his stronghold in the Fakai high ground, Zamfara State.

The operation was part of ongoing efforts to dismantle Turji’s criminal network.

In a statement issued on Monday in Abuja, Director of Defence Media Operations, Major General Edward Buba, revealed that the operation, which took place on January 17, targeted key areas along the Shinkafi, Kagara, Fakai, Moriki, Maiwa, and Chindo axes.

It was a joint effort between the troops of Operation Fansan Yamma and the air component of the military.

Buba stated that the operation led to the elimination of several terrorists, including Turji’s son, and the destruction of their logistics hub.

The intense firepower of the military was credited with inflicting heavy casualties on the terrorists.

Additionally, Buba confirmed that several hostages previously held captive by Bello Turji were rescued during the operation.

However, Turji himself managed to escape, abandoning his son and other combatants.

Three terrorists were killed, and three suspected Turji  collaborators were apprehended.

The troops seized significant military hardware, including two machine guns, one AK-47 rifle with a magazine containing 11 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition, along with 61 rustled cattle and 44 sheep.

Buba emphasized that the military’s efforts to combat terrorism in the region remain unwavering, with troops continuing to demonstrate commitment to safeguarding the nation and its citizens.
