Military taskforce intercepts N9.5m worth of Indian hemp in Plateau

The Military Task Force in Plateau State has intercepted illicit drugs otherwise known as Indian hemp from two suspected drug peddlers.

The Taskforce code named Operation Safe Haven (OPSH), said the drug is worth N9.5 million, concealed in a Toyota Camry car with registration number Abuja ABC 214 HV.

The Spokesman for the Force, Major Ishaku Takwa disclosed this in a statement sent to our correspondent on Saturday in Jos.

Takwa said the suspects identified as Ex Sgt Patrick Kalu a retired police officer, 60 year-old and Mr Friday Kalu 40-year old were nabbed by troops of OPSH during stop and search operation at Manchok Riom road in Plateau.

He said the syndicate alleged that they were contracted to convey the illicit substance from Ondo State to Yola in Adamawa State.

According to him: “Items recovered from the suspects include 320 blocks of substance suspected to be cannabis, a Toyota Camry car with registration Number Abuja, ABC 214 HV, a police identity card, 2 Nokia phones and two wallets containing Sixteen Thousand One Hundred naira and another containing Two Thousand Nine Hundred and Forty Naira only”, he said.

Takwa noted that the suspects and items recovered have been handed over to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, Plateau State Command for further investigation.

However, the Commander of the Taskforce, Maj. Gen. Ibrahim Ali, lauded the troops for their vigilance and reiterated the determination of his command to flush out criminal elements in the State and it’s environs, the statement said
