Troops of the Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF) have successfully rescued 40 hostages, including eight men, eight women, and 24 children, from Boko Haram insurgents in Borno State.

The rescue took place during a clearance operation in the Kukawa Local Government Area and Baga Axis, according to MNJTF spokesman Lt. Col. Olaniyi Osoba.

The hostages were freed after the troops encountered a group of Boko Haram militants transporting them from an enclave in Dogon Chikwu. The insurgents, facing intensified military pressure, abandoned the hostages and fled.

Military analysts have noted that this operation reflects the growing success of the MNJTF’s strategy in destabilizing Boko Haram strongholds in the Lake Chad region.

Security expert Dr. Kabiru Mohammed commented, “The coordinated efforts of the MNJTF are pushing Boko Haram out of previously secure areas, leading to more successful rescues of kidnapped civilians.”

The MNJTF, consisting of forces from Chad, Niger, Nigeria, and Cameroon, has been ramping up efforts in recent months to combat insurgents and reduce the influence of Boko Haram in border areas. The troops continue to pursue the fleeing terrorists, who are suspected of holding additional captives.

The operation is part of a larger campaign aimed at reclaiming territories and protecting local communities from the threats posed by the insurgency.
