The Nigerian automotive industry is set to witness a significant event as the National Automotive Design and Development Council (NADDC), Mikano Motors, and several other key stakeholders have thrown their weight behind the upcoming Capacity Building Workshop organized by the Nigeria Auto Journalists Association (NAJA).

Scheduled for Thursday, October 31, 2024, the workshop will take place at the Lagos Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI) building in Ikeja, Lagos.

With fossil fuel dependence being a critical environmental concern, the workshop aims to explore sustainable alternatives such as Compressed Natural Gas (CNG), Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG), and Electric Vehicles (EVs), alongside the challenges and opportunities associated with their adoption in Nigeria.

The workshop has garnered robust support from various industry players, including NADDC, Mikano Motors, CFAO Mobility, Jet Systems Automobiles, Fixit45 Limited, Pi-CNG, and Limacs Integrated Ventures.

These organizations recognize the pivotal role the event plays in fostering knowledge-sharing and enhancing the skills of automotive journalists, who are instrumental in shaping public opinion and providing crucial information on industry trends.

NADDC’s involvement is particularly noteworthy, as the agency has been at the forefront of promoting cleaner energy sources within the automotive industry. Over the past few years, NADDC has championed several initiatives to transition Nigeria’s automotive sector from its dependence on fossil fuels to more sustainable alternatives.

The agency’s collaboration with NAJA aligns with its ongoing efforts to create a robust framework for CNG, LPG, and EV adoption across the country.

Adrian Egonu, Chairman of the 2024 Annual Training/Capacity Building Workshop, emphasized that the training aims to equip auto journalists with updated knowledge about the emerging trends in CNG, LPG, and EV technologies.

He noted that the Federal Government, over the past 16 months, has made substantial strides in promoting cleaner-burning fuels as part of its efforts to mitigate environmental degradation and align with global practices for sustainable energy use.

According to him, the training will provide a deeper understanding of the technical, financial, and regulatory aspects of transitioning to cleaner fuels, a shift that is essential to the future of Nigeria’s automotive sector.

In his statement, Mike Ochonma, Chairman of NAJA, highlighted the critical role that the association plays in shaping the automotive narrative in Nigeria.

He commended the stakeholders for their support, stressing that the workshop will be a major step toward driving the conversation on alternative fuels, sustainability, and the future of transportation in Nigeria.

Ochonma pointed out that the discussions at the workshop will help build awareness among the public and industry players, which is crucial as Nigeria accelerates its move toward cleaner energy alternatives.

With the support of key stakeholders, the workshop is expected to provide valuable insights into how these policies can be effectively implemented, the infrastructure required for CNG and EV adoption, and the opportunities these initiatives present for investors and consumers alike.
