National Orientation Agency advocates for birth registration in National development

The National Orientation Agency (NOA) has underscored the critical role of birth registration in national planning and development.

This statement was made by Malam Ali Audu, the NOA Director in Yobe, during a press conference on Electronic Civic Registration and Vital Statistics held on Wednesday.

Audu announced a nationwide e-birth registration campaign in collaboration with the National Population Commission (NPC) and UNICEF, aimed at ensuring that every child has access to education, healthcare, and other essential services.

He emphasized that birth registration serves as the first legal acknowledgment of a child’s existence, which is vital for safeguarding their rights and privileges.

“Birth registration is crucial for unlocking access to basic services such as education and healthcare, both of which are essential for a child’s development and future,” Audu stated.

He urged parents and guardians to visit their nearest NPC registration centers to register their children, highlighting that the process is simple and free of charge.

Additionally, every child aged 0-5 years will receive a National Identification Number (NIN) upon completion of face capturing and birth registration.

Mr. Iyawa Damagwa, the NPC Director in Yobe, reiterated the importance of birth registration, noting that unregistered children often lack access to essential services and are vulnerable to abuse and exploitation.

Represented by Malam Muhammad Isa, the Public Relations Officer for the NPC in Yobe, Damagwa called on stakeholders to disseminate this message within their communities to encourage parents to register their children.

Hajiya Fatima Muhammad, representing UNICEF, also emphasized the significance of birth registration, describing it as a vital step in ensuring child rights and a crucial tool for protecting their future.
