A ballistic missile launched from Iran towards the airspace of Turkey was successfully intercepted on Wednesday by defense systems operated by NATO, according to official sources.

The development was disclosed in a statement issued by Turkey’s Ministry of National Defense and reported by Fox News. Authorities revealed that the missile was detected after it crossed the airspace of Iraq and Syria, prompting immediate defensive action.

Military sources indicated that NATO units stationed in the eastern Mediterranean tracked the projectile before neutralizing it mid-air, preventing it from entering deeper into Turkish territory.

Debris from the intercepted missile reportedly fell in a district of Hatay Province, a region bordering Syria in southern Turkey. Emergency response teams were swiftly deployed to assess the impact area. Officials confirmed that no casualties or significant damage have been reported so far.

In its statement, Turkey’s defense ministry reaffirmed the country’s readiness to protect its sovereignty.

“Every step taken to defend our territory and airspace will be taken resolutely and without hesitation,” the ministry said.

It further warned that Ankara reserves the right to respond appropriately to any hostile actions directed at the country.

The incident marks a significant escalation in regional tensions, as Turkey remains a key NATO member with strategic military installations and radar systems positioned across its territory.

Security analysts say the swift interception underscores NATO’s integrated missile defense capabilities in the region.
