The Chief Executive Officer and Executive Vice Chairman (CEO/EVC) of the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), Aminu Maida, has unveiled ambitious plans to bolster the Commission’s achievements in 2025.

Speaking through a series of tweets shared on Thursday via the official X account of the Minister of Communications, Innovations, and Digital Economy, Dr. Bosun Tijani, Maida highlighted a renewed focus on transparency, competition, and user empowerment in the telecommunications sector.

Maida announced that the NCC will introduce detailed coverage maps based on crowd-sourced performance data to enable users to identify the most efficient Mobile Network Operators (MNOs) in their areas.

This innovative initiative, expected to be available by the end of 2025, represents a significant leap toward consumer empowerment in the telecommunications sector.

“This is not going to be simulated data. It is going to be actual performance data, which will show you what the best network in your area is,” Maida explained. “No longer will you need to ask the man or woman nearest to you. You can actually come to the NCC’s website and look at the data for yourself.”

The CEO emphasized that the Commission’s strategy for 2025 is rooted in fostering transparency, which he believes will drive healthier competition among MNOs and enhance service delivery.

According to Maida, the groundwork laid in 2024 has set the stage for significant advancements in the coming year.

“2025, I’m really optimistic. We are going to build on the small gains we made in 2024,” Maida stated. “Now that we have laid some of the necessary foundations, we are going to see a lot more transparency to help drive competition and service delivery amongst operators.”

Reflecting on the achievements of 2024, Maida noted the successful implementation of the Federal Government’s NIN-SIM linkage policy, which streamlined the integration of National Identification Numbers with Subscriber Identification Modules.

This milestone not only enhanced national security but also improved service accessibility and user identification processes.

Another highlight was the Presidential Order issued on November 6, 2024, designating telecommunications infrastructure as Critical National Information Infrastructure (CNII).

This designation underscored the Federal Government’s commitment to safeguarding the telecom sector’s investments and operational stability.

The NCC’s 2025 agenda underscores its dedication to placing consumers at the center of its regulatory and operational focus.

By providing real-time, reliable data on network performance, the Commission aims to empower users with the information needed to make informed decisions while driving MNOs to improve their services.

As the NCC enters 2025, its plans signal a transformative era for Nigeria’s telecommunications sector.

By leveraging data transparency, fostering competition, and prioritizing consumer empowerment, the Commission is poised to drive innovation, enhance service delivery, and build on the successes of the past year.

With these initiatives, the NCC reaffirms its commitment to advancing Nigeria’s digital economy and connectivity landscape.
