The Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board (NCDMB) has officially launched the Nigerian Content Research, Innovation and Technology Challenge 2025/2026, inviting individuals, research institutions, academia, oil and gas suppliers, and members of the public to submit innovative proposals for evaluation and admission into the NCDMB Technology Innovation and Incubation Centre (TIIC) in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State.

The competition aims to identify and develop new technologies to tackle critical challenges in the oil and gas industry and its linkage sectors. Submissions are expected to align with approved thematic areas and priority industry challenges, which include:

Geological and Geophysical Studies – focusing on exploration solutions, big data applications, and real-time logging data processing.

Local Materials Substitution Studies – targeting sustainable materials for environmental remediation, cryogenic technology for LNG and refinery applications, and local materials for ultra-high temperature pressure cementing.

Technology Development Studies – innovations in denationalisation technology, Internet of Things applications in exploration and production, and condensate refining technology.

Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) Studies – solutions for carbon capture utilisation and storage, greenhouse gas reduction, depollution, produced water management, and hydrogen production for enhanced CO₂ capture.

Engineering Studies – technologies for enhanced oil recovery, refinery efficiency, laboratory analytical equipment, drilling technology, instrumentation, and control systems.

Renewable Energy – solar and wind energy solutions, energy storage systems including batteries, hydrogen storage, thermal storage, and molten salts.

The winning innovators will present their business pitches and demos to corporate venture capitalists, who will have the opportunity to invest, support innovation, and help emerging businesses scale.

The top five winners will receive cash prizes, mentorship, and media coverage, while the top 10 participants will be onboarded into the TIIC at the Nigerian Content Tower for further guidance, development, and support towards commercialising their innovations.

According to the NCDMB, the initiative is designed to drive technological advancement, strengthen local content development, and expand market reach for innovative solutions in Nigeria’s oil and gas sector.

This competition reinforces the Board’s commitment to fostering research, innovation, and commercialisation within the Nigerian energy ecosystem.
