The project is scheduled to receive formal approval by March 2025, which indicates a timeline for moving forward. This initiative is set to play a vital role in the ongoing education reform efforts that Nigeria is undertaking. The Programme Information Document has outlined that the total cost of the project is estimated to be $554 million. Out of this total, $500 million will be funded directly by the World Bank, while an additional $54 million is expected to come from a grant provided by the Global Partnership for Education.
The document further explained that this HOPE-Education operation will be financed through a credit from the World Bank’s International Development Association amounting to $500 million, alongside the grant of $54 million from the Global Partnership for Education. Additionally, the World Bank has been selected as one of two organizations that will act as grant agents responsible for implementing a System Transformation Grant valued at $107.59 million. This approach includes careful programme design, oversight, and technical assistance to ensure that the implementation of the project is effectively managed and coordinated across both grant agents involved in this significant education initiative.
