A Nigerian military commander, who has been identified as Brigadier General M.A. Sadiq of the 3 Brigade based in Kano State, is currently being held in detention within a military police guardroom located in Abuja. This situation arises from serious allegations against him, which include the diversion of rice palliatives meant for soldiers, as well as selling various military equipment. Among the items he is accused of selling are generator sets and operational vehicles, which he reportedly sold to scrap yards for profit.

The Nigerian Defence Headquarters had distributed these rice palliatives to various brigades across the country with the intention of providing support to soldiers. This distribution was meant to serve as a form of relief for the troops. However, it is alleged that General Sadiq refused to share the rice with his personnel stationed in Kano State, which raises significant concerns about his actions and management of resources that were meant to benefit the soldiers under his command.

Additionally, it has come to light that this troubled general has reportedly stolen numerous official military items that belonged to the armed forces. Notably, among these items was a MIKANO heavy-duty generator that was located at the Military Training Camp in Falgore, Kano. It is alleged that General Sadiq sold this generator and others to metal scrap dealers, further exacerbating the misconduct he is being accused of.

In response to these troubling allegations, steps have already been taken within the military leadership. General Sadiq has been replaced by Brigadier General A.M. Tukur, who is a former registrar of the Nigerian Defence Academy. The decision to replace General Sadiq indicates the seriousness of the accusations against him and the military’s commitment to maintaining discipline and accountability within its ranks.
