Nigerian fashion designer Sheriff Shittu shot dead at Brooklyn nightclub

A 30-year-old Nigerian fashion designer based in the United States, Sheriff Shittu, has been shot dead following a confrontation with an intoxicated patron at a nightclub in Brooklyn, New York.

The fatal incident occurred in the early hours of February 14 at Quilox Restaurant and Lounge, located in the East Flatbush area of the borough. Reports indicate that the shooting took place at approximately 4:25 a.m.

According to preliminary accounts, the suspect had reportedly been involved in a disturbance inside the club and was being escorted out by security personnel when the situation escalated. While being led out of the premises, the individual allegedly pulled out a firearm and opened fire.

Witnesses said the suspect had earlier behaved disorderly and was accused of making inappropriate advances toward female guests, including Shittu’s girlfriend, which reportedly triggered a heated exchange before the shooting.

Shittu had visited the club alongside his younger brother, Fawaz Shittu, to celebrate a friend’s birthday. Speaking after the incident, Fawaz described the moment as devastating, recounting his frantic attempts to get his brother to respond after he was shot.

Another relative, Salem Shittu, questioned the security protocols at the venue, expressing concern over how a firearm was able to pass through screening at the entrance. He suggested that stricter security measures might have prevented the tragedy.

Following the shooting, Shittu was rushed to One Brooklyn Health – Brookdale University Hospital Medical Center, where he was later pronounced dead.

Law enforcement authorities confirmed that the suspect fled the scene immediately after the incident and remains at large. An investigation is currently ongoing to apprehend the individual and determine the full circumstances surrounding the shooting.

Family members described Sheriff Shittu as a determined and creative entrepreneur who had relocated to the United States to expand his fashion business and pursue better opportunities.

His death has left relatives, friends and members of the Nigerian community in shock and mourning.
