Nigeria’s election body fraternizing with China’s Communist Party

The Inter-Party Advisory Committee (IPAC) says it plans to partner with the Chinese Communist Party on global best practice, ahead of 2023 general elections.

IPAC National Chairman, Yabagi Sani, said this when he received a delegation from the Chinese Communist Party, led by Mr Wu Baocai in Abuja on Thursday.

“IPAC was established about 12 years ago against the backdrop of the nation’s chequered history of democracy,” Sani said.

He said that the Council’s primary mandate was to promote and sustain intra party harmony among political parties as well as enhance internal cohesion and sanity within them.

He added that IPAC also work towards constructing bridges of understanding and synergies between the three democratic organs of the Legislature, the Judiciary and the Executive.

Sani said that the collaboration would help IPAC to achieve its overriding objective of deepening the roots of democracy and democratic institutions in Nigeria.

“As Nigeria inches toward another round of general elections in 2023, the political atmosphere in the country is already, characteristically, charged to a high pitch.

“The emerging signals on the political horizon are clearly demanding greater level of preparation and strategies on the part of IPAC and the other strategic key players in the country’s democracy project.

“At this critical juncture, Nigeria will certainly be needing the robust support usually given by friendly nations in order to be able to surmount the looming challenges,” he said.

Sani said that IPAC was attracted and excited by the phenomenal feat achieved by the Chinese Communist Party over the years.

This, he said was in its leadership and guidance of 1.4 billion strong population of divergent ethnic backgrounds and communities toward unity.

“That IPAC was also enthralled by the spectacular achievements, unsurpassed in the records of human development, by the People’s Republic of China under the supervision of the Communist Party, in the near total banishment of poverty, illiteracy and disease.’’

Sani said that IPAC had a vision of building a political culture of collaborative democracy as a strategy and vanguard of crystallising human development.

He said this was through economic prosperity, technological advancements, security and integration in a polity of a united and patriotic citizenry.

“We are however convinced that, while building a model of democracy rooted in their peculiar history, textures and characteristics, there is so much that Nigeria and countries in Africa can learn from the exemplary strides of the Chinese Communist Party.

“In furtherance of the goals of enthroning universal peace and security, unity and fraternity among nations and peoples.

“The People’s Republic of China, under the supervision of the Communist Party, is expected and looked upon to stand by us toward the eventual achievements of these lofty ideals.

Responding, Baocai said that Nigeria and China had been allies for long and should continue to strengthen the political and economic relationship between them.

“We have so many Nigerians studying and doing business in China. Most importantly, many Chinese people and companies come to Nigeria too .So, I hope the friendship between China and Nigeria continues,” he said.

Baocai expressed hope that the corporation between the two countries, its peoples, political organisations and many more co-operations would continue for an enhanced relationship for better life of both countries.
