The Director General and CEO of the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC), Engr. Abisoye Coker-Odusote, has reaffirmed the security and protection of data within the National Identity Database (NIDB) as Nigeria marks National Civil Registration and Vital Statistics (CRVS) Day.
Represented by Engr. Lanre Yusuf, Director of Information Technology and Identity Database, at a press conference in Abuja, Coker-Odusote emphasized that NIMC has implemented robust security measures to safeguard citizens’ data.
She assured that the National Identification Number (NIN) database remains secure and highlighted the ongoing efforts of NIMC to maintain its integrity.

The DG also praised the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) and the National Population Commission (NPC) for their collaboration towards an inclusive digital identity system in Nigeria.
Engr. Coker-Odusote reiterated NIMC’s strategic partnership with the NPC and other government agencies to enroll and issue NINs to all Nigerians, especially children under 16 years old. She mentioned plans to extend enrollment efforts to remote areas to ensure all Nigerians are registered.
To date, over 109 million NINs have been issued to Nigerians and legal residents, with 20% of these belonging to children. Coker-Odusote committed to ensuring timely and accurate NIN enrollment for all.
Additionally, she announced the upcoming launch of the Improved General Multi-Purpose Card (GMPC), aimed at supporting the Federal Government’s initiatives for inclusivity and social safety net programs.
