The Kano State Chairman of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), Hashimu Dungurawa, has raised concerns over what he claims are deliberate attempts by the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) to erode political diversity and steer Nigeria toward one-party rule.
He also forecasted a decisive defeat for President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 general elections, attributing his prediction to what he described as anti-people policies implemented by the current administration.
Speaking to journalists in Kano on Thursday, Dungurawa accused the APC-led administration of imposing economic hardship on Nigerians and stifling opposition voices.
He criticized President Tinubu’s policies as detrimental to the welfare of the masses, claiming they signal an intentional disregard for the needs of ordinary Nigerians.
“With your unfriendly anti-masses policies and your stance, just prepare for defeat in the next general election. You either change them or Nigerians will collectively change you,” Dungurawa warned.
He traced the roots of these issues to Tinubu’s inauguration speech on May 29, 2023, which he described as the beginning of an economic assault on Nigerians.
“From the podium on May 29, 2023, President Tinubu started reeling out anti-masses policies as if Nigerians had stepped on his toes. He kept slamming unfriendly policies on us, even up till today,” Dungurawa remarked.

The NNPP chairman expressed confidence in his party’s ability to challenge the APC’s dominance in the 2027 elections.
He vowed that the party, under the leadership of Dr. Rabiu Kwankwaso, would restore democratic balance and focus on alleviating the suffering of the masses.
“With these challenges and many more deliberately created by the All Progressives Congress-led government, it is just a matter of time as we will certainly ensure Tinubu is out in 2027 and Dr. Rabiu Kwankwaso, a true democrat, steps in,” Dungurawa stated.
He also praised the NNPP-led government in Kano for its achievements, claiming that the state now rivals modern cities globally in terms of development and governance.
Dungurawa warned that the Federal Government’s actions risk undermining Nigeria’s democratic framework.
He alleged that efforts are being made to suppress opposition voices and impose a one-party system, a move he described as dangerous for the nation’s democracy and its future.
“Efforts are being made by the Federal Government to suppress opposition parties and impose a one-party system. This is dangerous for our democracy and for the future of Nigeria,” he said.
He urged the government to prioritize policies that address the suffering of Nigerians, calling for a departure from what he termed as anti-people governance.
Addressing speculation about NNPP’s national leader, Rabiu Kwankwaso, potentially rejoining the APC, Dungurawa dismissed the rumors as baseless. He accused detractors of fabricating the story to tarnish Kwankwaso’s reputation and discredit his leadership.
“The rumour was fabricated to tarnish Kwankwaso’s reputation and towering popularity,” Dungurawa said, reaffirming Kwankwaso’s dedication to the NNPP’s vision for a prosperous and democratic Nigeria.
