The Oba of Benin, Oba Ewuare II has assured the Nigerian Army of the Benin Palace’s support in ongoing security operations across Edo State.
The assurance was given when the Commander of the 4 Brigade of the Nigerian Army, Brigadier General Ahmed Balogun, paid a courtesy visit to the monarch at his palace in Benin City on March 4, 2026.
This was disclosed in a statement issued on Friday by Captain Kennedy Anyanwu, Assistant Director, Army Public Relations, 4 Brigade Nigerian Army.
During the visit, the monarch commended the Nigerian Army for its efforts in safeguarding lives and property in Edo State and across the country.
Oba Ewuare II also offered prayers for the safety and success of soldiers engaged in operations aimed at maintaining peace and security.
As part of his suggestions to strengthen the military’s engagement with local communities, the traditional ruler advised the brigade to consider using Benin language codenames for their operations within the kingdom.
Brigadier General Balogun, who recently assumed duty as commander of the 4 Brigade, said his visit to the palace was to formally introduce himself and seek royal blessings for the success of his assignment.
He emphasised that the support of traditional institutions, particularly the Benin Palace, remains vital in sustaining peace and tackling security challenges in the state.
The brigade commander also reaffirmed the military’s commitment to maintaining a zero-tolerance stance against all forms of insecurity.
At the end of the visit, the Oba offered special prayers and blessings for Brigadier General Balogun, wishing him success in his leadership and continued service to the nation.
