Former President, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, has unveiled plans to provide free medical services to no fewer than 10,000 residents in Lagos suburbs as part of activities commemorating his 89th birthday anniversary.

The large-scale humanitarian initiative, organised under the auspices of the Olusegun Obasanjo Foundation (OOF), will hold in Ikorodu and Alimosho Local Government Areas between February 27 and March 4, 2026.

In a statement issued at the weekend by his Special Assistant on Media, Kehinde Akinyemi, the outreach was described as a legacy-driven intervention reflecting Obasanjo’s lifelong commitment to national service and the welfare of Nigerians.

Chief Executive Officer of the Foundation, Dr. Olalekan Makinde, said the Lagos Medical Mission is designed to deliver comprehensive and life-changing healthcare services at no cost to beneficiaries.

“In celebration of the 89th birthday of His Excellency, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, GCFR, former President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and Founder of the Olusegun Obasanjo Foundation, the Foundation is proud to announce a large-scale Lagos Medical Mission aimed at providing comprehensive, life-changing healthcare services — completely free of charge to more than 10,000 Nigerians,” Makinde stated.

He noted that the outreach underscores Obasanjo’s enduring vision of accessible healthcare and compassionate intervention for underserved communities.

According to the Foundation, the medical mission will commence on Friday, February 27, 2026, at the Ijede LCDA Council Hall, Ijede, Ikorodu, and continue on Saturday, February 28, at the Imota Mini Stadium, Imota, also in Ikorodu.

The exercise will then move to Alade Stadium, Command Road, Agbado/Oke-Odo in Alimosho from Monday, March 2 to Wednesday, March 4, 2026.

Beneficiaries will receive a wide range of free medical services, including: Free Ear Care Services, with provision of hearing aids to qualified beneficiaries; Free Eye Care Services, including detailed eye screening, prescription glasses, and referral and sponsorship for necessary eye surgeries; Cardiovascular screening, including blood pressure checks and heart health assessments

Preventive medical counselling; General medical consultations, diagnosis, treatment, and distribution of essential medications at no cost.

Makinde emphasized that the medical mission represents a meaningful way to honour the former president’s legacy.

“As we celebrate the 89th birthday of His Excellency, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, GCFR, we honour his legacy in the most meaningful way possible — by serving the people. This medical mission is a gift to the nation, especially to those who may not otherwise have access to quality healthcare,” he said.

The outreach is open to elderly citizens, children and families, individuals living with untreated hearing or vision challenges, persons with cardiovascular concerns, and low-income and vulnerable residents across Lagos State.

Residents have been advised to arrive early at designated venues, as services will be rendered strictly on a first-come, first-served basis.

The Olusegun Obasanjo Foundation is a humanitarian organisation committed to transforming lives through strategic interventions in health, education, agriculture, youth empowerment, and community development. Its flagship Hearing Programme has restored hearing and renewed hope for thousands of beneficiaries across Nigeria and beyond.

The 89th birthday medical mission stands as a significant tribute to Obasanjo’s decades of leadership, service, and unwavering dedication to humanity.
