Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki, has attributed the prevailing hardship in the country to policies implemented by the Federal Government.

In a statement released on Sunday, Obaseki highlighted the measures his administration has taken to alleviate the suffering of Edo residents amid the difficult living conditions.

Obaseki’s comments came as protesters in Edo State took to the streets and held a church service to express their discontent with the harsh economic realities.

The governor noted that the protest is a direct response to the challenging conditions caused by federal policies, which have led to skyrocketing food prices, high transportation costs, rampant inflation, and financial struggles for small business owners across the country.

In response to these challenges, Governor Obaseki outlined several people-oriented programs his administration has implemented to ease the burden on Edo residents:

Raising the minimum wage to N70,000 to enhance purchasing power.

Introducing a free transport scheme along Edo City Transport Service routes.

“The protest is obviously the result of the difficult living conditions which Nigerians have had to endure, particularly over the last year, due to various policies implemented by the Federal Government,” Obaseki stated.

He emphasized that his administration has taken proactive steps within its constitutional authority to show empathy and support the people of Edo State during these trying times.
