In a heartfelt response to former Edo State Governor Adams Oshiomhole’s recent controversial remarks about her childlessness, Mrs. Betsy Obaseki, the First Lady of Edo State, has offered words of comfort and encouragement to women facing similar challenges.

During a Zoom meeting with over 200 Edo women from around the world, Mrs. Obaseki, accompanied by Mrs. Ifeyinwa Ighodalo, wife of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate, addressed the emotional toll of childlessness and emphasized the importance of self-worth and purpose.

“I dare to call you fruitful. You and I are potential and proud mothers of children that will come in God’s time,” Mrs. Obaseki reassured participants. “Enjoy the life God has given you.”

Addressing the pain of miscarriages and stillbirths, Mrs. Obaseki emphasized that these experiences do not define a woman’s worth or potential. “Everyone was created by God for a purpose. And as a result, have no children to show for the pain we have endured; you are not barren,” she said.

She encouraged women to focus on their potential and contributions to society beyond childbearing.

Mrs. Obaseki also highlighted that being fruitful extends beyond biological motherhood. “There is no point in feeling bad. Women can fulfill God’s purpose in many ways beyond motherhood,” she stated.

The First Lady shared her personal journey and offered support to those who have experienced similar losses, urging them not to let these challenges deter their spirits or sense of purpose.

Mrs. Ifeyinwa Ighodalo expressed gratitude to the attendees and pledged to continue supporting Betsy Obaseki’s initiatives for women and the girl-child in Edo State if her husband is elected.

In her welcome address, Mrs. Adesuwa Obasohan, founder of the group hosting the meeting, vowed to support Asue Ighodalo’s candidacy, reflecting the group’s continued support for Governor Godwin Obaseki and his administration’s efforts.
