Senator Buruji Kashami, representing Ogun East Senatorial District has described the alarm raised by former Ogun State Governor, Otunba Gbenga Daniel, that he sponsored an alleged assassination attempt on his life as a “hoax, spurious allegation without any basis in fact and evidence whatsoever”.
It will be recalled that Daniel had written a petition to the Inspector General of Police, Idris Ibrahim, where he accused Kashamu of sending thugs to eliminate him at his Abuja resident on Thursday night.
A statement issued by Kashamu’s Media Adviser, Austin Oniyokor, said, “It is certain that OGD is hallucinating. He is the accuser, the investigator, prosecutor and judge in his own case. Pray, why would Senator Kashamu go after a man who is at the twilight of his political career?
“All the good people of Ogun State know who is violent between Senator Kashamu and OGD. Whereas all Nigerians know that Ogun State was under the siege of violence and politically-motivated killings during OGD’s reign as governor of Ogun State, Senator Kashamu fights his political battles in the court of law and public opinion using his God-given resources.”
“Clearly, OGD is hallucinating and afraid of his shadows. Otherwise, what would have been expected of sane mind was to report the incident to the Police and allow them to do their job of investigating the incident.

But, in this case, because he is desperate to score cheap political point and seek relevance for his dimming political career, he has to raise the false alarm and pin it on someone who does not even care if he exists. In doing this, he has sheepishly assumed the role of the accuser, investigator and prosecutor or judge in his own case. What a childish way to play cheap politics! ”
When contacted, the Ogun State caretaker committee led by Tunde Odanye was not available to comment on the crisis as he was said to be out of the state.
However, national Daily gathered that the crisis was not unconnected with leadership of the party in the state.
The senator, who is a staunch supporter of the Ali Modu Sheriff faction, also said the inauguration of the committee was a slap on the judiciary.
He said the dissolved executive committee in the state had a court judgment in its favour and that had not been appealed by the national leadership of the party.
Kashamu said: “The action of the Senator Ahmed Makarfi-led NOC which derives its legitimacy from the court is not only an affront on the peace-loving leaders and members of our party in Ogun State, but also a most devastating slap on the judiciary.
“The caretaker committee is one-sided and made up of ex- Governor Gbenga Daniel’s nominees with the exception of the chairman. How then could these people be talking of reconciliation and harmonisation? Clearly, they are liars and deceivers, Kashamu had said.
