The Ogun State Police Command has released Abigeal Nsikak, popularly known as Mirabel on TikTok, to the Ogun State Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development as investigations into her alleged rape continue.
In a press statement, the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, provided an update on the case following heightened public interest.
According to the statement, Mirabel visited the police station after making her allegation online and was subsequently taken to a medical facility for examination.
“Upon her visit to the police station, she was received and taken to a medical facility for necessary examination to verify her claims. She has continued to cooperate with investigators as due process progresses,” the statement read.
For her welfare and support needs, Mirabel has now been placed under the care of the Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development, which has assured the police that she will be made available whenever required as investigations continue.
The police emphasized that the case is being handled with professionalism, sensitivity, and diligence, urging the public to refrain from speculation.
“Members of the public are urged to refrain from speculation and allow the investigation to run its full course. Further updates will be provided as necessary,” the statement added.
Mirabel had earlier alleged on TikTok that she was attacked and raped by a stranger who allegedly forced his way into her apartment in Ogijo, Ogun State, sparking widespread concern on social media. However, the case became more complex after an audio recording surfaced online in which she allegedly admitted to fabricating parts of her account.
The police reminded the public that providing false information to law enforcement is a criminal offence under Nigerian law, referencing the Criminal Code Act and the Cybercrimes (Prohibition, Prevention, etc.) Act, 2015.
At this stage, the police have made no pronouncement on guilt or innocence, stating that investigations are ongoing. The statement was signed by DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, Police Public Relations Officer, Ogun State Command, Eleweran, Abeokuta, and dated February 25, 2026.
Experts on criminal law have noted that while social media allegations can amplify public awareness, law enforcement agencies must follow due process to ensure justice is served without compromising the rights of any party involved.
This development underscores the balance Nigerian authorities face between responding to public outcry and ensuring fair, evidence-based investigations in high-profile cases.
