The Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi Ojaja II, has revealed how agitator Sunday Adeyemo Igboho tied himself up in a knot with his Oodua Nation activism.

According to Ooni, he discussed Igboho with President Muhammadu Buhari when the 49-year-old began his secessionist push.

“I visited President Buhari on his case and we discussed it. I told him that Igboho is our son, he told me that he (Igboho) should stay calm and exercise patience. The president told me that monarchs should warn him to be calm,” Ooni told the BBC Yoruba service on Monday.

“After I left Buhari’s place, I called on monarchs and elders of Yoruba land for a meeting to advise Igboho to exercise patience but Igboho did not listen. He started abusing everyone, including the monarchs I sent to him.”

The reason, according to the monarch, was that Igboho listened to some politicians.

President Buhari himself recently said a senator in the current assembly has been identified as the one bankrolling him.

More revelations by AGF Abubakar Malami also added that some terrorist financiers were traced to Igboho who is now in Cotonou jail for forging travel documents, awaiting imprisonment or return to Nigeria he fled after the DSS invaded his home and declared him wanted.

Ooni blamed him for trying to be a hero

“It is better to fight together. We can only achieve our goal if we are united,” he said.

“No one can fight with the government alone? You’ve to be diplomatic.”

But the monarch said they have all forgiven him, and will stand by him.
