Amid the internal crisis within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), the Acting National Chairman, Ambassador Umar Damagun, has strongly denied reports suggesting that he has resigned from his position, dismissing them as fake news and the handiwork of mischief-makers intent on destabilizing the party.
Damagun, who made the rebuttal in a statement issued on Saturday by his personal assistant, Nuru Shehu Jos, described the rumors as baseless and a deliberate attempt by political detractors to mislead the public and sow discord within the party.
“Our attention has been drawn to a fabricated report claiming that Ambassador Umar Damagun has resigned. This is nothing but fake news orchestrated to create confusion,” the statement read.
Reiterating that he remains firmly in charge, Damagun emphasized that the PDP constitution guarantees the National Chairman a four-year tenure in the first instance, making any claim of his resignation completely unfounded.

“We insist that this malicious content against Ambassador Damagun is false, defamatory, and a criminal act. The law will soon catch up with those responsible for this mischief,” the statement added.
The embattled PDP leader urged party members, including elders, stakeholders, youth, and women’s groups, to disregard the rumors and remain steadfast in their commitment to the party’s unity and progress.
He also issued a stern warning to those behind the misinformation, cautioning that legal action could be taken against individuals or groups deliberately spreading falsehoods to destabilize the party.
The PDP has been grappling with internal strife in recent months, with tensions rising over leadership disputes and factional divisions.
However, Damagun’s latest statement appears to reaffirm his grip on the party’s leadership as he continues efforts to navigate the crisis and restore stability within the party’s ranks.
As the political landscape ahead of the 2027 general elections continues to shift, the PDP’s ability to maintain internal cohesion remains a crucial factor in its bid to reclaim power at the national level.
