Member representing Langtang North/Langtang South federal constituency in Plateau State Hon. Beni Lar has donated relief materials worth N12 million to Kumbwang and Lyanjit communities of Langtang North LGA.
Our correspondent recalls that the two communities have clashed over land disputes resulting in the loss of lives and destruction of property worth millions of naira in the area.
Lar while speaking during the event said the development is as a result of a motion of urgent public importance she presented on the floor of the House urging the house to direct the relevant government agency like NEMA to intervene in the matter.
According to her, the materials includes bundles of zinc, bags of cement, rice, beans, corn, gallons of vegetable oil, and zinc nails.
She added that they are in the communities to sympathize with them and to show that the federal government and indeed Nigerians cares as NEMA has responded to their yearning.
“I am very happy that at last, we can feel the federal government generosity and benevolence. I am also happy that the communities has resolved their differences and are able to apply the home grown internally generated disputes settling mechanism. As you heard them, they have vowed never to take up arms against one another again.”
She commended the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) for providing relief materials to the people in order to cushion the effect of the crises that engulfed the area.
Speaking in the same vein, the Executive chairman of Langtang North LGA Dr. Joshua Ubandoma Laven commended the warring communities for their resolved to end the communal crises.
He urged them to continue to pursue sustainable peace for the growth and development of their communities stressing that no meaningful development can take place in the atmosphere of rancour.
Also in his remarks, the Chief priest of one of the affected communities, Ponfa Peli commended the effort of Hon. Beni Lar and NEMA by providing succour to the ruined communities.
