The Kwara State Police Command has arrested a 15-year-old boy, Gobri Yusuf, for allegedly killing his guardian, identified simply as Akanbi, who had adopted and raised him in Ilorin.

The arrest was confirmed on Friday by Adekimi Ojo during a press briefing at the command’s headquarters in Ilorin.

According to the police commissioner, officers swung into action after receiving a distress report about the discovery of the victim lying in a pool of blood inside her residence.

Ojo explained that preliminary investigations suggest the suspect, who had been living with the deceased as a ward, allegedly carried out the attack while the woman was bathing.

“Preliminary findings from the investigation revealed that the suspect, who lived with the deceased, allegedly carried out the attack while the victim was bathing,” the commissioner said.

Further investigations revealed that the teenager reportedly hid behind a door before launching the attack using several household items.

The police said several objects believed to have been used in the incident were recovered from the suspect. These include a frying pan, a weighing scale, a kitchen turning stick (spatula), and kitchen knives.

Ojo disclosed that the teenager allegedly confessed to the crime during interrogation, claiming the act was motivated by resentment toward the deceased.

According to the police commissioner, after the incident, the suspect allegedly changed his clothes and left the house under the pretext of running an errand.

He later contacted the deceased’s husband, who returned home and discovered his wife lying motionless.

The police command said the suspect is currently in custody while investigations continue to determine the full circumstances surrounding the incident.

Authorities added that further legal steps will be taken after the conclusion of the investigation.
