Police arrest four suspected cultists, recover stolen vehicle in Anambra

The Anambra State Police Command has arrested four suspected cultists operating around Nkpor communities in Idemili North Local Government Area.

In a statement on Wednesday, the Command’s Spokesman, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, said the arrests were made on Sunday by operatives of the Special Anti-Cult Squad attached to Obosi Sector, in collaboration with a local vigilante group acting on credible intelligence.

The suspects Hampo Chidiebere, 20; Chinonso Edeh, 22; Chinedu Agu, 21; and Abuchi Anigbogu, 18, confessed to being members of the Barger Confraternity, a cult group reportedly terrorising the Nkpor community. Police disclose that their operation is still ongoing to apprehend other members and recover weapons.

The arrests followed the recovery of a suspected stolen vehicle, a green Honda Pilot Jeep with registration number KSF 671 BG, found abandoned in Akuzo Nkpor. A search of the vehicle revealed bloodstains inside, prompting further investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident.

SP Ikenga assured the public of the command’s commitment to protecting lives and property and stated updates would be provided as the investigation progresses.

In a related development, the command also arrested two female suspects, Uzoma Nwabueze and Precious Monday, in connection with the disappearance of 16-year-old Oluebube Chukwuma in Ozubulu, Ekwusigo LGA. The suspects admitted involvement and disclosed that the missing girl is currently in Ghana
