The arrests took place in Akure, the Ondo State capital, during the final stage of a nationwide protest against hunger, hardship, and poor governance, known as #EndBadGovernanceInNigeria.
The TIB Movement condemned the police’s actions and called for the immediate and unconditional release of Ajayi and Owolabi. In a Twitter post, the movement stated:
“It’s unfortunate that the @PoliceNG is yet to learn. The continued clampdown on peaceful #EndBadGovernanceInNigeria protesters is a total shame. We condemn the unlawful arrest of Ajayi Wizeman and Patrick Owolabi in Ondo state and we demand their immediate and unconditional release!”
