Police foil robbery attack at Delta’s Hausa market, recover arms, ammunitions

Operatives from the Delta State Police Command have foiled an arm robbery attack on the Hausa Market in Asaba, the state’s capital, recovering arms and ammunition in the process.

In a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, Delta State Command, DSP Bright Edafe, operatives from the CP’s Decoy Squad had responded to a distress call from the market when some suspicious looking persons in a tricycle were spotted in the area.

It said “On the 11/09/2022 at about 0430hrs, the Command in a swift response to a distress call from Hausa Market in Asaba, about some suspicious looking persons using a tricycle in the area, operatives of Command’s CP-Decoy Squad were detailed to the area where the hoodlums on sighting the Police abandoned a defaced tricycle and took to their heels.

“Upon a thorough search of the tricycle, a fabricated AK 47 rifle, twelve (12) rounds of 9mm live ammunition and twenty-three (23) live cartridges all concealed in black polythene bag and hidden beneath the rear passenger’s seat were recovered.

“Effort has been intensified in collaboration with local vigilantes to arrest the fleeing suspects.”

The Commissioner of Police, CP Ari Muhammed Ali, according to the statement, has commended the efforts of the residents in the State who “always avail the Command with useful information that aids in crime fighting.”

The CP also urged them to continue to collaborate with the Command, noting that “crime has no jurisdiction, as criminals do not have human sympathy and as such should not be allowed to go about their mischievous deeds unhindered.”

He also assured all that the identity of anyone who gives information to the Police will be treated with utmost confidentiality.
