The Nigeria Police Force has highlighted the transformative benefits of the Electronic Central Motor Registry (E-CMR), a cutting-edge innovation aimed at modernizing vehicle registration and enhancing security.
The Force Public Relations Officer, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, took to his X (formerly Twitter) account to outline the potential of the E-CMR to streamline vehicle verification and tracking, particularly in cases of theft.
One of the major advantages of the E-CMR, according to Adejobi, is its ability to eliminate the need for manual document checks by officers. “No more stopping to check papers—our officers are equipped with cutting-edge tech to verify documents in real-time,” Adejobi noted.
This development is expected to significantly reduce the time spent on road stops, allowing for a more seamless and efficient policing process.

Another critical feature of the E-CMR is its role in vehicle recovery. Adejobi emphasized that, in the unfortunate event of a vehicle theft, owners can immediately flag the vehicle as stolen via their online profile.
This feature allows the police to begin tracking the vehicle in real time, increasing the chances of swift recovery.
This innovation is part of a larger effort initiated by Inspector General of Police (IGP) Olukayode Egbetokun, who in July 2024 mandated the enforcement of the digitized Central Motor Registry.
The IGP’s directive was aimed at not only modernizing the vehicle registration system but also improving the country’s overall safety and security framework.
The E-CMR is expected to revolutionize how vehicles are managed and tracked in Nigeria, providing law enforcement with a vital tool to combat vehicle theft and fraud, while also making road interactions more efficient.
As the system is rolled out, citizens can expect a more streamlined and secure process when it comes to vehicle registration and verification.
