A pregnant housewife abducted by bandits in Plateau State has reportedly given birth while still in captivity, after her husband was killed by the attackers during the raid.
The incident occurred on January 17, 2026, when gunmen stormed the Kyaram community in the Garga district of Kanam Local Government Area. The assailants shot and killed the woman’s husband, identified as Umar Rufa’i, before abducting the woman and their daughter.
The distressing development was disclosed by Shehu Kanam, National Secretary of the Kanam Development Association (KADA), during a statement issued in Jos, the state capital.
“We are shocked and saddened by the brutal killing of Umar at his residence in Kyaram community, Garga area of Kanam Local Government Area, on January 17, 2026, around midnight,” the statement said.
Kanam added that the bandits had contacted the family on Sunday, hours after the abduction, to inform them that the woman had delivered a baby while still in captivity.
“The bandits also abducted his wife and daughter, who are still in captivity,” the group stated, expressing deep sorrow over the incident.
The statement further revealed that the deceased was buried on January 18, 2026, according to Islamic rites.

“We condemn this heinous act and express our deepest condolences to the bereaved family and the entire Kyaram community,” KADA said.
The association described the news of the childbirth as heartbreaking, noting the traumatic conditions under which the woman delivered the child.
“The report we received this morning is that the bandits called and informed the family that the wife of the deceased gave birth today, while in captivity. This is very heartbreaking, imagining the condition through which she delivered,” the statement said.
The secretary also highlighted that the entire Garga district has been repeatedly affected by banditry and kidnapping, with frequent reports of killings and abductions in the area.
The latest incident has intensified concerns about the security situation in the region, as residents continue to live under the constant threat of violent attacks.
