A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rivers State, Tonye Princewill, has said that the Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Chibuike Amaechi, is the best candidate for the APC in the 2023 general elections. Princewill, Director of Strategic Communications of the APC Campaign in Rivers State in 2019, observed that other presidential aspirants in the APC, including the APC national leader and former Governor of Lagos State, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, have the right to contest for the party’s presidential ticket, but stated that Amaechi is the ideal candidate for the party following his track records of achievements. He added that he cannot stop Tinubu from contesting the 2023 presidential race but he knows where his support is.
Princewill, former governorship candidate of the ACN and later Labour Party, declared Amaechi the most qualified to be Nigeria’s president in 2023. “His track record, his commitment, his energy, his ability to get things done, his age and his ability to reach a consensus over the years, stands him in good stead.
“As our speaker, he was the chairman of speakers; as governor, he was the chairman of governors, as minister, he is the best performing minister by far,” Princewill highlighted. He maintained: “So, as President, I know the trend will continue. Nigeria is far too important to leave tomorrow to chance,” Princewill highlighted.
Princewill observed that the greatest problem of the APC is lack of internal democracy. He argued that the way the party elects its candidates gives credibility to the process.
He recalled how the APC was united in 2014 and defeated the PDP. Princewill warned that APC must remain united to retain power in 2023, stating that if the party does otherwise, “it will have a taste of its own medicine,” in losing power to the PDP.
