President Bola Tinubu has nominated Taiwo Oyedele, chairman of the presidential committee on fiscal policy and tax reforms, to serve as Minister of State for Finance.

Oyedele is expected to succeed Doris Uzoka-Anite, who will be redeployed to the Ministry of Budget and Planning, marking her third ministerial portfolio under Tinubu’s administration.

In a statement released Tuesday, Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, said Tinubu formally conveyed Oyedele’s nomination to Senate President Godswill Akpabio, requesting the Senate’s confirmation.

“Oyedele, 50, is an economist, accountant, and public policy expert,” the presidential spokesperson said.

According to Onanuga, Oyedele’s educational background includes a Higher National Diploma (HND) in Accountancy and Finance from Yaba College of Technology and a BSc in Applied Accounting from Oxford Brookes University.

He has also completed executive education programmes at the London School of Economics, Yale University, the Gordon Institute of Business Science, and the Harvard Kennedy School.

Oyedele brings extensive professional experience, having spent 22 years at PwC, joining in 2001 and rising to the position of Fiscal Policy Partner and Africa Tax Leader. He is also a professor at Babcock University in Ogun State and a visiting scholar at the Lagos Business School.

Appointed in July 2023 as chairman of the presidential committee on fiscal policy and tax reforms, Oyedele has been at the forefront of Nigeria’s ongoing tax system overhaul.

Onanuga also recounted Uzoka-Anite’s ministerial journey, noting that in August 2023, she was appointed Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment before being redeployed to serve as Minister of State for Finance in November 2024.

Oyedele’s confirmation by the Senate would mark the next step in the administration’s effort to strengthen Nigeria’s fiscal and tax policy framework.
