The Police Service Commission (PSC) has announced the appointment of four new substantive commissioners of police for the commands in Lagos, Abia, Ebonyi, and Akwa Ibom states.
The appointments were made to fill vacancies created by the recent promotion of senior officers within the force.
The newly appointed commissioners are: Isah Danladi Nda for the Abia State Command; Olarewaju Ishola Olawale for the Lagos State Command; Anthonia Adaku Uche Anya for the Ebonyi State Command and Miller Gajere Dantawaye for the Akwa Ibom State Command.
In a statement released on Friday, PSC spokesperson Ikechukwu Ani noted that the appointments are part of ongoing efforts to strengthen the leadership of the Nigeria Police Force in these strategic locations.

The appointments were approved by the PSC and have been communicated to the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, for immediate implementation.
Hashimu Argungu, the chairman of the PSC, emphasized the importance of the new commissioners making significant contributions to the security management in their respective states.
He urged them to focus on building efficient and effective police commands that can address the unique security challenges in their jurisdictions.

The appointment of Miller Gajere Dantawaye to the Akwa Ibom State Command is particularly notable, as he replaces Waheed Ayilara, the former commissioner of police who passed away on August 29, 2024.
Ayilara died at the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH) due to complications from prostate cancer. His untimely death had left a significant leadership gap in the Akwa Ibom Command, which Dantawaye is now expected to fill.
These appointments come at a critical time as Nigeria continues to grapple with various security challenges across the country.
The new commissioners are expected to bring fresh perspectives and renewed energy to their commands, ensuring the safety and security of citizens in their respective states
