The Chancellor of Summit University, Offa, Kwara State, and Chairman of Rite Foods Limited, Dr. Sulaiman Adebola Adegunwa (OFR), has emphasised that sustained investment in quality education remains a vital driver of long-term socio-economic development for Nigeria.
Dr. Adegunwa made this known during his address at the combined 5th and 6th convocation ceremony of the university, held at the Alhaja Adiat Abegbe Makanjuola Lecture Theatre.
The Chancellor applauded stakeholders for their unwavering commitment to the institution’s growth, noting that their financial and moral support had continued to strengthen Summit University’s foundation.
“This event marks a key milestone for our university. It honours our graduates and celebrates our shared success. An investment in knowledge pays the best dividend. The journey we have embarked upon with Summit University stands as one of the most rewarding investments,” he said.
He stressed that the benefits of such investments extend beyond the present generation and urged well-meaning Nigerians to partner with the university in advancing its mission.
“Our dividend is not only for today; it is also for posterity. Let us join hands to lift Summit University high, open doors to quality education, and change the world for the better.”
Reflecting on developments since he assumed office as the pioneer Chancellor in December 2023, Dr. Adegunwa highlighted significant progress in academic expansion and infrastructural development.
According to him, undergraduate programmes have grown from eight to sixteen, while six academic programmes recently secured full accreditation from the National Universities Commission (NUC).
“The growth we see today is a testament to your hard work and strategic planning,” he told the Management, Governing Council, and Board of Trustees.
On infrastructure, he disclosed that the university had laid the foundation for four major buildings, with one already completed and two nearing completion.
He also expressed appreciation to philanthropists—especially Mosun Belo-Olusoga—for their continuous support, describing their generosity as pivotal to the university’s progress.
Dr. Adegunwa revealed that the university was concluding preparations for resource verification ahead of launching new programmes in the College of Law and the College of Health Sciences.
He further announced that Summit University had received approval to operate a Campus FM Radio Station, a development he said would boost community engagement and strengthen the institution’s role in promoting knowledge and combating misinformation.
The convocation also featured the conferment of honorary doctorate degrees on: Aderemi Muyideen Makanjuola; Lateefat Olufunke Gbajabiamila; A posthumous doctorate in Business Administration for Tiamiyu Adebisi Olatinwo. Other distinguished personalities were also honoured.
