Railway Corporation commences 3-day warning strike Wednesday

Workers at the Nigerian Railway Corporation on Wednesday commenced a three-day warning strike. The NRC union leaders ordered the suspension of train services between Abuja and Kaduna, Lagos, Ibadan, and Warri due to a strike.

The Corporation mandated district managers to be at alert to shut down train stations plying Abuja-Kaduna, Lagos-Ibadan and Warri-Itakpe routes, when the workers down tools.

NRC Managing Director, Fidet Okhiria, had in a memo on Tuesday notified all district managers and key staff of the imperative of protecting railway assets if workers proceed on strike.

The NRC three-day warning strike is planned to be held from November 18th to November 20th.
It was disclosed that a letter titled, “Notice and Directive to embark on 3-day warning strike nationwide,” dated November 12th, was sent to the District Chairman/Secretary Nigeria Union of Railway workers and Senior Staff Association.

The Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, held a meeting with the workers unions on Saturday; the meeting ended in a deadlock.

The NRC staffers had mobilized many workers for enforcement of the industrial action which will commence at midnight on Wednesday.

The workers are demanding improved salaries, among others.
