The Tony Okocha-led faction of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rivers State has issued a stern ultimatum to Governor Siminalayi Fubara, demanding that he resign immediately or face impeachment by the State House of Assembly.
Okocha, the Caretaker Committee Chairman of APC in Rivers State, made this declaration during a press briefing in Port Harcourt on Monday, where he accused the Governor of mismanaging the state and plunging it into crisis.
According to Okocha, Fubara has only two choices – resignation or impeachment. He alleged that the Governor’s leadership had created instability, leading to a breakdown of governance in the state.
“Governor Fubara’s administration has driven Rivers State into crisis. His continued stay in office is a disservice to the people. He must either step down or be removed by the State House of Assembly,” Okocha declared.
Okocha further claimed that the Supreme Court’s recent verdict indicated that Rivers State lacks a functional government, citing what he described as multiple infractions committed by Fubara. These infractions, he insisted, qualify as impeachable offenses.
“The Supreme Court has indirectly acknowledged that Rivers State has no functional government due to Fubara’s actions. His missteps are serious enough to warrant immediate impeachment,” he stated.
The APC leader also asserted that Governor Fubara no longer has the political legitimacy to summon members of the Rivers State House of Assembly for discussions.

His remarks come amid the growing rift between the Governor and the Assembly, whose members are largely loyal to former Governor and current Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike.
This latest development adds to the escalating political crisis in Rivers State, where power struggles between Fubara and his predecessor Wike have dominated governance in recent months.
The APC’s impeachment threat follows a series of confrontations between the Governor and the pro-Wike faction of the State House of Assembly. Last year, the Assembly attempted to impeach Fubara, but the move was halted after an intervention by President Bola Tinubu.
Political analysts believe that this renewed call for impeachment could further destabilize the state’s political landscape, especially with the 2027 general elections on the horizon.
As Rivers State continues to witness heightened political tensions, it remains to be seen how Governor Fubara will respond to the APC’s ultimatum and whether the House of Assembly will initiate impeachment proceedings.
