Kimberly-Clark Nigeria , an organisation with interest in personal and essential feminine hygiene products has said that it plans to empower 500,000 Nigerian girls annually through its empowerment programme.
The General Manager of the company, Mr Vani Malik, stated this in a statement he made available to the Newsmen in Lagos on Monday.
Malik said that this was part of the company’s efforts to continue to meet the sanitary hygiene needs of its female consumers.
He said that the company would accomplish it by training girls on its leading sanitary towel brand, Kotex, and its girl-child empowerment initiative, `She SABI’ which is the local adaptation of the company’s global “She Can” programme.
He said that the `She SABI’ initiative was meant to champion women’s progress about fighting period stigma which was associated with consequential financial and social barriers.
He said, “In less than a year, thousands of young female Nigerians have benefitted from the programme’s school and community education initiatives.’’
He said that the initiative in Nigeria had underscored Kimberly-Clark’s global vision to lead the world in essentials for a better life, as it sought to achieve its objectives in Nigerian communities.
Malik said that through the programme, Kimberly-Clark had been providing young girls with the much-needed support and advice at a time critical for positive growth and development of self-esteem, self-confidence, and socialisation skills.
Malik, a strong advocate of menstrual hygiene promotion and the girl-child empowerment said, “We strongly believe that the life of a young girl should not change as soon as she starts her periods.
“We intend to empower these young girls through She-Sabi initiative. 500,000 girls in Nigeria to be reached annually.
“We will continue to meet the sanitary hygiene needs of our female consumers through our leading sanitary towel brand, Kotex, and its girl-child empowerment initiative, ‘She SABA’,” he said
Similarly, the company said it would bring smiles to new parents through its Huggies Hospital Sampling Programme, stressing that no fewer than one million and sixty-five mothers would be reached annually in Nigeria.
Malik said that giving samples of Huggies’ products to such number of mothers was part of their global ambition to improve the lives of one billion people in undeserved communities around the world by 2030.
Also, Kimberly-ClarkNigeria’s Marketing Director, Kemi Saliu, said, “through this initiative, we have given thousands of young girls the information, freedom and confidence they need to live their lives.
