Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has denied reports suggesting he filed a lawsuit against the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to prevent any future prosecution or arrest following his tenure.
The denial, issued through the state’s Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Lawal Pedro, was communicated by the governor’s spokesperson, Gboyega Akosile, in a statement on Tuesday.
According to Pedro, there was no instruction from Sanwo-Olu to pursue any legal action involving the EFCC.
He clarified, “At no time did Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu sue or authorize any legal practitioner to file a suit on his behalf concerning any alleged investigation or future prosecution.”

Pedro emphasized that, as a sitting governor protected by constitutional immunity, Sanwo-Olu has no need to initiate any such case, especially given that his term still has nearly three years remaining.
Pedro further stated that his inquiries confirmed the EFCC has not engaged in any investigation, arrest threats, or invitations involving the governor or his staff.
He added, “It is misleading to suggest that the governor, who remains protected by constitutional immunity, has acted to obstruct future investigations.”
Sanwo-Olu’s office has initiated an internal review to uncover how the misinformation about the alleged suit began circulating without their awareness. As of the report’s filing, the EFCC has not commented on the matter.
