The Kano State Police Command has confirmed the killing of seven people after armed attackers invaded a residential home in Dorayi Chiranchi Quarters of Kano metropolis, sparking shock and grief within the community.
According to a police statement, the attack occurred around midday on Friday, January 17, 2025, when unknown assailants forcefully broke into the residence of one Haruna Bashir.
The command said it received a distress call at about 12:10 pm reporting the violent assault.
Those killed were identified as a 35-year-old woman, Fatima Abubakar, and her six children, who were reportedly at home when the attackers struck.
Police said the assailants were armed with dangerous weapons and inflicted fatal injuries on the victims during the attack.
Upon receiving the report, the Commissioner of Police in Kano State, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, ordered an immediate and robust response. He directed a team of officers, led by the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of Operations, DCP Lawal Isah Mani, to proceed to the scene to secure the area and commence preliminary investigations.
The victims were evacuated from the house and rushed to the Murtala Mohammed Specialist Hospital, Kano. However, medical personnel at the facility confirmed that all seven victims had died from injuries sustained during the attack.

“Bodies were evacuated and rushed to Murtala Mohammed Specialist Hospital, Kano, where they were pronounced dead,” the police said.
“A team led by the Assistant Commissioner of Police, Criminal Investigation Department (CID), ACP Wada Jarma, has been instructed to conduct a thorough investigation with a view to arresting the perpetrators and bringing them to justice.”
The police command said a full-scale investigation has commenced, with detectives working to establish the motive behind the attack and identify those responsible.
While no arrests have been announced as of the time of filing this report, security operatives are said to be intensifying efforts to track down the suspects.
