Newcastle United legend Alan Shearer has predicted that Manchester City will secure victory over Chelsea in this weekend’s crucial Premier League encounter.

The Blues are set to host the defending champions at Stamford Bridge on Sunday evening in what promises to be a pivotal fixture in the title race.

Chelsea head into the clash buoyed by a morale-boosting FA Cup triumph over Port Vale, while City also come into the game on a high after recording a significant win against Liverpool in their previous outing.

Despite Chelsea’s recent success, Shearer believes Pep Guardiola’s side have greater motivation and momentum as they continue their pursuit of the Premier League title. Writing in his Metro column, the former England striker stressed the importance of consistency for City at this decisive stage of the season.

“Man City need to win every game now, especially with that huge clash against Arsenal coming up next weekend,” Shearer wrote.

He added that he expects City to maintain their winning run against Chelsea, predicting that Guardiola’s men will emerge victorious in west London.

“I would think they would carry that on, and I think City will win against Chelsea,” Shearer stated.

The former Newcastle forward further warned that failure to secure maximum points could have major implications for City’s title hopes. According to him, if City drop points while Arsenal secure a win in their own fixture this weekend, the championship race could effectively be decided.

“If City don’t win and Arsenal win this weekend, then I think the Premier League title race will be dead and buried,” he said.

With the season entering its decisive phase, Sunday’s showdown at Stamford Bridge could prove critical not only for City’s ambitions but also for the overall balance of the title race.
