Shehu Sani reacts to US Mission’s criticism of Nigerian governors’ spending

Senator Shehu Sani, a prominent chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and former lawmaker representing Kaduna Central at the National Assembly, has voiced his reaction to a recent statement from the United States Mission in Nigeria regarding the spending habits of some Nigerian governors.

The U.S. Mission in Nigeria had taken to its official X (formerly Twitter) handle to highlight a perceived disparity between the economic realities faced by ordinary Nigerians and the expenditures of some state leaders.

The post explicitly stated: “While Nigerians are urged to endure economic hardship like labour pains, some governors are splurging billions on new government houses.”

In response to this direct criticism, Senator Shehu Sani shared his thoughts on his official X handle, suggesting a reciprocal scenario.

He questioned the potential implications for Nigerians who might choose to comment on the internal affairs of the United States.

“I hope when our young people expressed their opinions on US internal affairs on their social media handles, it will not affect their visa,” Senator Sani wrote, implying a double standard in the freedom to comment on internal governance issues.
