Sherif Bashir late goal sinks Wikki Tourists

A late goal by former Abia Warriors and Bayelsa United star Sherif Bashir secured all the three points for Katsina United in one of the Nigeria Professional Football League Group A fixtures at the Mohammodu Dikko Stadium in Katsina

‘The Chanji Boys’ subdued the resilient display of the visitors from Bauchi via a late goal by the new signing from Abia Warriors in his debut game.

Sherif who was introduced to the game at the tale end of the first half  after Destiny Ashadi sustained a groi injury and could not continue the game told National Daily  after the game that he is in Katsina to score goals and help his new club to attain a greater height

“Yes, its was a nice display from both teams and I must give Kudos to my team mates and our opponents.

“It was a difficult game, we dominated and enjoyed the larger part of the possession of the ball but the goal just didn’t come until just few minutes to the end of the game.

“I thank God for scoring my first and the winning goal for my team. He concluded

The game started on a bright note with both teams showing prowess in the attack and testing the goalkeepers.

The first clear-cut chance of the game fell to Abba Umar who dribbled past two markers before finding space in the middle to power home a long-range drive, but Katsina United Niger born  goalkeeper Daouda Kassaly stood firm to save the danger just twelve minutes into the game

Joshua Agboola also came close on 22 minutes to open the scoring for Katsina United, but his right-footed effort was saved by the former Kano Pillars goalkeeper Pius Ibrahim.

Wikki almost broke the deadlock on 27 minutes  but Timothy Danladi and Ajanah combined well to clear the threat from Abubakar

Tasiu Lawal found the back of the net with a left-footed volley but it was flagged off for offside

Both teams knocked and and poked severally, but could not find the back of the net as they headed to half time break goalless.

The resumption witnessed an early threat by Katsina United as Tasiu Lawal and Usule Martins tested Pius Ibrahim with shots from distance but nothing came out of it.

Agboola caught the eyes of many fans with dazzling skills and constant threat down the right flank

Katsina United introduced Musa Suleman and Joseph Adah to fortify his attack as they continued to search for the winning goal.

Few minutes after the substitutions, an unmarked Sherif Bashir volley home a lose ball in the box on 89th minutes to register his first premier league goal of the season for the team and gave Katsina United their first home victory of the season.

Katsina United will next travel to Osogbo to settle scores with Remo Stars in one of the NPFL group A matchday 5 fixtures.

The scorer of the only goal of the game Sherif Bashir was adjudged the man of the match for his fantastic display
