Former Aviation Minister and prominent All Progressives Congress (APC) figure, Femi Fani-Kayode, has hailed the arrest and detention of Simon Ekpa, a self-proclaimed leader of the Biafra Republic Government in Exile. Finnish authorities detained Ekpa on terrorism-related charges, including incitement to violence in Nigeria’s South-East region.
Simon Ekpa, known for his controversial leadership of the Biafra separatist movement, was apprehended in Finland over allegations of orchestrating violent activities and promoting terror-related crimes. His actions have been linked to unrest and fatalities in Nigeria, particularly in the South-East, where he is accused of inciting violence through his broadcasts.
Ekpa’s arrest has been widely discussed, with many in Nigeria viewing it as a step toward curbing separatist extremism.
Reacting to the development on his official X (formerly Twitter) account, Femi Fani-Kayode described Ekpa’s arrest as a significant breakthrough. He accused the separatist leader of being a dangerous figure who caused immense harm to Nigerians from abroad.
“The arrest and detention of Simon Ekpa by the Finnish authorities for terrorism-related charges and inciting terrorism in Nigeria is good news,” Fani-Kayode wrote.
He went on to label Ekpa as a “feral psychopath” and a “man of blood,” accusing him of enjoying the suffering and deaths of people in the South-East. Fani-Kayode also criticized Ekpa for using Finland as a safe haven to orchestrate violence in Nigeria.

“Many innocent Nigerians were killed on his orders and as a consequence of his foul and divisive rhetoric,” Fani-Kayode added.
Ekpa has been a divisive figure, gaining notoriety for enforcing sit-at-home orders that disrupted economic activities in the South-East and allegedly led to violent confrontations. His arrest could signal increased international cooperation in addressing transnational threats tied to terrorism and separatist movements.
Dr. Chijioke Nwankwo, a political analyst, noted that Ekpa’s detention might ease tensions in the South-East. “While it doesn’t resolve the underlying issues driving the Biafra agitation, it removes a key player fueling violence and discord,” he said.
However, human rights groups have called for due process, urging authorities to ensure that Ekpa’s rights are upheld while investigating his alleged crimes.
Many observers see the arrest as a potential turning point in addressing the security crisis in the South-East. Fani-Kayode expressed hope that Ekpa’s detention would deter others who advocate violence as a solution to Nigeria’s challenges.
“This should serve as a lesson to those who believe division, violence, and terror are the only way forward,” he stated.
As investigations continue, the arrest has reignited conversations about the role of diaspora actors in domestic conflicts and the need for robust measures to counter hate speech and terrorism.
