Resolved to boost youths employability especially in Ajeromi Ifelodun local government and Nigeria , SkillHub a technology innovation driven organisation, operators of CodeLab has trained hundreds of youths in the area to become software developers and I T experts.
The innovative technology skill acquisition forum tagged, ‘Smart Ajegunle Hackathon’ held between Saturday 30th and Sunday 31st, October 2021, is geared towards raising software developers in slum communities across Nigeria, in alignment with SDG Goals 4,5 and 8.
At a two-day scale up session held in the heart of Ajegunle area of Lagos, founders of SkillHub and Operators of CodeLab, Bukola Gbemi and Mr.Peter Oti notes that the concept is designed to be a 24 hours hackathon session,where different young software developers with requisite training attempt to solve issues bedevilling the youths in Ajegunle community and Nigeria at large.
CodeLab and developers from other technical backgrounds teamed up to proffer solutions, using modern technologies to address the cited challenges.
The training had two phases , the first session featured a transformational leadership session by captains of industry and mentors, the Pitching session came up the second day as solutions developed were displayed and appraised for probable scores given by Technological Stakeholders and Innovators.
According to Comrade Babatunde Ifenuga, Principal Consultant Lead-P and a stakeholder,the initiative by SkillHub through CodeLab intends deriving a synergy which will bolster youths employability.
“CodeLab by SkillHub seeks to foster collaboration, networking, learning and building solutions and by the end of the Smart Ajegunle Hackathon event, would have enhanced Tech impact on driving employability in youths.” Comrade Ifenuga said.
Some of the dignitaries at the occasion were Hon Fatai Ayoola, the Executive Chairman, Ajeromi-Ifelodun Local Government Council, ably represented by his amiable Vice Chairman, Hon Lucky Udhukue.
Udhukue is also a distinguished member of Computer Society of Nigeria and a leader in the Lagos Chapter. Comrade Michael Ojobaro, Chairman, National Youth Council of Nigeria made the guest list at the event.
The organizers and their supporters were applauded for such laudable program, particularly, for training and raising tech experts from such poor young people in Under-served Community like Ajegunle on scholarship. Mr Peter Oti called for more support to do more for humanity.
