The Super Eagles of Nigeria will take to the pitch on Saturday as they face Algeria in a high-stakes quarter-final encounter at the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Morocco.

Nigeria, under the guidance of head coach Eric Chelle, have enjoyed an impressive and unbeaten run since the start of the tournament, emerging as one of the most consistent teams in the competition.

The Super Eagles recorded victories over Tanzania, Tunisia, Uganda and Mozambique in the earlier stages, boosting confidence ahead of the knockout phase.

The quarter-final clash presents a crucial test for the three-time African champions, who are chasing their first AFCON title since lifting the trophy in 2013 and a fourth overall in the history of the competition. Standing in their way are Algeria, former champions who are equally determined to relive their 2019 AFCON triumph.

Speaking ahead of the encounter, Chelle said his team has done extensive analysis on the North African opponents and is focused on overcoming both tactical and psychological challenges.

“We’ve tried to find the weaknesses of the opponent, and we try to put it into the heads of our players that we can get past this obstacle,” Chelle said.

“This is the quarter-finals, and your state of mind is very important. You have to manage the pressure, manage the opponent and also execute what the coach asks you to do. That is what we work on every day, and I believe we will be ready for the game,” he added.

The Super Eagles will face Algeria at the Marrakech Stadium in Morocco, with kick-off scheduled for 5:00 p.m. Nigerian time. The winner of the encounter will advance to the semi-finals as the race for continental glory intensifies.
