Sulaimon Babatunde, an accused standing trial for throwing his friend into the lagoon in Lagos, has said he was revenging his daughter’s death. Babatunde, a tailor and alleged cultist, during arraignment before an Ebute Meta Magistrates’ Court alleged his victim, identified as Ahmed, caused the baby’s death.

The 24-year-old resident of No. 135, Isale Gambari St., in Ilorin, Kwara, also revealed he committed the act alongside two of his accomplices. Both accomplices fled upon sighting policemen on the Carter Bridge from where the victim was hauled into the lagoon.

Cousin Adams, sergeant and police prosecutor, told the magistrate Babatunde committed the offence on June 5, 2017 at about 10p.m.

Adams also alleged both Babatunde and his victim were cultists in Kwara state, where they previously lived.

The court refused to take Babatunde’s plea.

The matter was adjourned till July 24.
