Take advantage of health insurance, NYSC boss urges corps members.

The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has called on corps members posted to Gombe State to take full advantage of the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) to stay healthy during their service year.

Maj.-Gen. Shuaibu Ibrahim, the Director-General of NYSC, gave the charge on Tuesday while declaring closed the 2022 Batch ‘A’ Orientation Course at the Amada temporary camp in Akko Local Government Area of Gombe State.

Ibrahim stated that through the support of the Federal Government, corps members had been enrolled into NHIS under a comprehensive initiative known as NYSC Group Individual Family Social Health Insurance Programme (GIFSHIP).

The DG, who was represented by Mrs Ada Imoni, the state coordinator of the scheme, said corps members must ensure that they reported promptly for medical attention in the event of ill-health.

“I enjoin all corps members to take full advantage of this arrangement by registering under Health Care Providers in their service locations.

“Corps members can also visit any NHIS accredited hospital during official leave period outside their service locations,” he added.

Ibrahim commended the Federal Government for “providing the enablement for the take-off of Corps members’ enrollment” into the health scheme.

He further cautioned them on the need to continue to observe the COVID-19 protocols while advising them to “take the vaccine if not done already.”

A total of 1,037, 2022 Batch ‘A’ corps members comprising 346 females and 691 males will be posted to various communities across Gombe State for their primary assignment.
