Senator Shehu Sani may be expressing solidarity with Senator Abdul Ningi, representing Bauchi Central Senatorial District in the 10th National Assembly, who was suspended for three months for exposing  padding of over N3 trillion in the 2024 budget by the senate.

Sen. Abdul Ningi sanctioned for speaking truth in the Senate.

Sani explained that if you talk too much on the side of truth, you will pay for it bitterly. He maintained that that is the reason the Opposition cannot oppose in the National Assembly.

According to Shehu Sani, “If you talk too much, your bodi go tell you, that is why even opposition no fit oppose too much.”

Senator Shehu Sani maintained that when he publicly exposed the salaries and running costs of the federal lawmakers, when he was in the National Assembly, he was saved from suspension by the then President of the Senate.

Sani stated: “When I publicly disclosed the salaries and running costs of lawmakers, it was the then Senate president who saved me from Suspension.”

Sani in a statement delineated what it means to suspend a senator.

“Suspension in the Senate means a Senator will not be allowed to attend the plenary and will be prohibited from attending committee meetings and participating in oversight functions.

“His Salary, allowances and all entitlements will be blocked.

“He will not have access to his office and he is expected not to be seen within the premises of the National Assembly until the suspension is lifted.

“When I publicly disclosed the salaries and running costs of lawmakers, it was the then Senate president who saved me from Suspension.

“If you talk too much, your bodi go tell you, that is why even opposition no fit oppose too much.”

Senator Abdul Ningi was suspended from the Nigerian Senate on Tuesday for exposing padding of the 2024 budget with about N3.7 trillion.

According to Ningi, N25 trillion of the 2024 can be linked to projects, money and allocations, but about n3 trillion cannot be linked to any project, money and location.

Also, Senator Jarigbe Agom-Jarigbe, representing Cross River North Senatorial District, alleged that some senators got the total of N500 million each from the 2024 Budget.

According to Sen. Jarigbe, “All of us are culpable. Some senators here, so-called senior senators got N500 million each from the 2024 Budget. I am a ranking senator, I didn’t get anything.”

Sen. Jarigbe also said that Senator Ningi was right in raising alarm over budget padding.
