President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the appointment of Dr. Olugbemisola Titilayo Odusote as the new Director-General of the Nigerian Law School, marking a historic milestone in the institution’s over six decades of existence.
The appointment was announced on Tuesday in a statement issued by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Mr. Bayo Onanuga. According to the statement, Odusote’s tenure will take effect from January 10, 2026, and will run for a four-year term.
Dr. Odusote, 54, is currently the Deputy Director-General of the Nigerian Law School and Head of its Lagos Campus.
Her appointment makes her the first woman to lead the institution since it was established in 1962. She will succeed Professor Isa Hayatu Chiroma, whose eight-year tenure as Director-General is scheduled to end on January 9, 2026.
A seasoned legal academic, Odusote earned her Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.) degree from Obafemi Awolowo University and was called to the Nigerian Bar in 1988.
She also obtained a Master of Laws (LL.M.) degree from the same university, specialising in company and commercial law.
She later proceeded to the United Kingdom, where she earned a PhD in Law from the University of Surrey, with research interests in public law and the administration of justice.
She joined the Nigerian Law School in 2001 as a lecturer and has since risen through the ranks, serving in several key positions including Head of the Academic Department, Director of Academics and Head of Campus.
