Tinubu makes nine new appointments

President Bola Tinubu recently announced nine key appointments for the Federal University of Applied Sciences in Kachia, Kaduna State This new university, formerly known as Nok University, is a significant addition to Nigeria’s higher education system following the federal government’s acquisition.

A prominent appointment is that of Bishop Matthew Kukah as the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council Bishop Kukah’s extensive experience and reputation will be invaluable in guiding the university’s development and ensuring its success.

The President also appointed several principal officers for the university these key individuals will be responsible for the daily operations and academic programs. Professor Qurix Williams Barnabas will serve as the Vice Chancellor, overseeing the academic side of the university. Sanusi Gambo Adamu will take on the role of Registrar, Ibrahim Dalhat will serve as the Bursar, and Professor Daniel Abubakar will be the University Librarian.

In addition to these principal officers President Tinubu appointed four new members to the university’s Governing council. These members represent diverse regions of Nigeria, ensuring broad representation in the university’s leadership Mr Thomas Etuh will represent the North Central region, Chief Fabian Nwaora will represent the South East, Professor Femi Taiwo will represent the South West and Zarah Bukar will represent the North East.

President Tinubu stressed the importance of these appointments emphasizing that the appointees were selected for their outstanding careers and proven leadership. He expressed confidence in their ability to provide the visionary leadership needed to transform the university into a center of academic excellence and research. He emphasized that their work should align with his administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda, a plan for national progress and development

The President’s expectations for the new appointees are high, as he urged them to work together to establish a strong foundation for the university, this includes creating a supportive learning environment for students promoting high-quality research and fostering collaboration between faculty and students. The goal is for the university to become a leading institution known for its innovative programs and contributions to society

The Federal University of Applied Sciences is preparing to welcome its first group of students in September 2025.

These appointments mark a significant step towards the university’s opening.
